Sometimes, individuals who receive services from the Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities are just a helping hand away from social independence.
Our Community Connections division assists these individuals with some of the tasks many of us take for granted. It might involve taking them shopping a couple of times a month, teaching them to cook, or encouraging them to give back to their community by volunteering their time with area non-profits.
Community Connections is directly tied to an individual's ISP - Individual Service Plan.
Each individual receiving services from the Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities annually receives an ISP. This is an effort to assess their wants, needs and goals, and attempt to meet those parameters over the next year. The plan is fluid and can change with the desires of the individual.
One of the strong aspects of Community Connections is encouraging individuals with disabilities to volunteer. Each year, these individuals donate hundreds of hours to area non-profits, such as Fisher-Titus Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Clothing Bank, Humane Society, and the Soil and Water District, just to name a few.
